Hurricane Harvey has wreaked an estimated $190 billion in havoc. Now, winemakers and celebrities are pitching in to support the thousands left homeless after the storm.
Here are three ways to drink wine and assist Harvey victims in need:
Matthiasson Wines
Award-winning sustainable winemaker Matthaisson just released a 2014 Napa Valley White Wine Hurricane Harvey Relief Release ($40). 100% of all after-tax profits will on each purchase be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The 2014 white is a Sauvignon Blanc, Ribolla Gialla, Semillon, and Tocai Friulano blend. Tasting notes include “trademark white peach, kafir lime, lychee nut, beeswax, ripe fig, and pineapple, but with much more prominent stones, oyster shells, and freshly baled straw”.
Hill Family Estate
Renowned Napa Valley winemaker Hill Family Estates will be donating 50% of proceeds on all online wine sales to the Houston Flood Relief Fund. Consider the 2013 Red Door Cabernet Sauvignon, which was an excellent vintage year for Napa Valley and received 94 points from Robert Parker. Act quickly — today, September 5th, is the last day to purchase.
Personal Wine
Texas-based personalized wine company Personal Wine has launched a Texas Strong Wine Series where 100% of proceeds go to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The line includes a 2013 Paso Robles Red Blend ($20), a Sierra Foothills Syrah-Grenache-Mourvedre blend ($30), and, of course, a Texas White Zinfandel ($20).
