Your rundown of what’s new in the world of Amazon Wine:
Game of Thrones Wines finally reaches Amazon
Ahead of the impending season launch in less than two weeks, you can finally buy your Game of Thrones wines on Amazon. As if that wasn’t enough incentive, Amazon is offering 1 cent shipping for any purchases over 3 bottles. The current selection includes a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($60), Paso Robles Red Blend ($25), Central Coast Chardonnay ($25), or all three for $99. As early reviews are surprisingly positive for a themed wine, we think it’s a pretty great steal.
Next Wines launches on Amazon Wine
King Estates, the acclaimed Oregon winemaker known for its Acrobat and Domaine labels, is introducing a new line of wines called NEXT. What separates NEXT from its brethren is that NEXT is designed to showcase multiple AVAs within Oregon, sourcing from across the state. King Estates sources only from the Willamette Valley, and Acrobat sources from Western Oregon but is not AVA-specific. The launch is initially exclusively on Amazon Wine, and includes a 2014 Columbia Valley Red Blend ($30), 2015 Oregon Pinot Noir ($40), and 2016 Willamette Valley Pinot Gris ($20).
Fetzer launches new Adorada wines
Known for its $6 gewürztraminer, Fetzer is now going upscale. The company seeks to set itself apart with a line of wines designed to be especially aromatic. Adorada currently has two offerings, a 2016 Rosé exuding wild rose, strawberry, and honeycomb, and a 2016 Pinot Gris offering orange blossom, honeysuckle, and lemon zest. Bottles are individually hand-sealed with black wax instead of a traditional foil cap. Despite this more expensive packaging procedure, the label somehow manages to attain a $19.99 price point, potentially by sourcing from across California rather than a single AVA. To elevate itself above other California table wines, the company has tactfully positioned each wine after perfume, with the label “Eau de California”.
