When Larry Schaadt first laid eyes on the Regale Winery estate, it was a plot of forested wilderness in the Santa Cruz hillsides. But Schaadt had a vision: to create a sun-drenched Italian oasis, just minutes from the heart of Silicon Valley. Today, Regale Winery is that vision, brought to life. Whether you seek a leisurely afternoon activity or a picturesque wedding venue, here’s what to expect at Regale Winery.
Wine Tasting Experience
There are multiple ways to experience Regale Winery. On warm days, guests can sip wine in its sun-drenched Italian renaissance-style garden, surrounded by birdsong, the splash of a bubbling fountain, and brilliant heirloom roses. From this vantage point, one can admire the pristine panoramas of the Santa Cruz mountains and the lush expanse of estate vineyards beyond.
Meanwhile, on cold or rainy days, guests can retreat to the Italian villa-style estate. A lofty cellar room makes a warm, intimate setting for dinner receptions and large groups. It is lined with large barrels from Cognac, France and Italian terracotta amphorae actively used to age the estate’s Chardonnay. There is additional space for events upstairs, where guests can cozy up to a glass next to the fireplace, with or gaze out onto the gardens below.
It’s clear that great care and attention goes into the Regale vineyard estate. During my visit, the team welcomed me with warm hospitality, and was wonderfully familiar with every aspect of the winery. And unlike some winery proprietors who remain detached from daily affairs, I was pleasantly surprised to encounter the owner, Larry, pitching in to help staff set up for an event. Chatting with Larry, it became clear that he is running much more than a winery. With Regale, he is creating beautiful experiences in the heart of the Bay Area, uniquely tailored to guests’ preferences.
Tip: If you like a wine, buy it after the tasting! Many of Regale Winery’s expressive, site-specific wines are only available at the winery. While some wines can be purchased online, most of the wines are reserved for club members, tastings, or events.

Regale Winery Tasting Notes
2020 Reserve Chardonnay
Crafted through a meticulous process involving aging in both Italian Terracotta clay amphorae and French oak, the Reserve Chardonnay strikes a harmonious balance between pure aromatics and invigorating acidity. Delightful notes of lush lemon curd, ripe pear, and fragrant honeysuckle gracefully unfold, culminating in a crisp finish accentuated by a subtle hint of stony minerality.
2020 Estate Pinot Noir “Pommard”
This is a lovely New World expression of the classic Burgundian clone. The Estate Pinot Noir enchants with its medley of forest floor nuances, brambly red berry, and succulent plum flavors. Intricately woven with undertones of sweet cedar spice, its supple tannins and refreshing acidity render it a versatile companion to many cuisines.
2015 Reserve “Black Label” Cabernet
Marking Regale Winery’s inaugural Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon release, this vintage sourced from Napa’s esteemed Diamond Mountain AVA exudes opulence. Generous layers of dark fruit intertwine with hints of licorice, cedar, and clove, underscored by delicate traces of herbs and violet. Its smooth, silky tannins yield a rich, deep ruby color in the glass.
