Wine Review: 2019 Gracianna Chardonnay – Suzanne’s Blend

Family is integral to Gracianna Winery. Founded in 2005, this Russian River Valley estate honors the legacy of the Amador’s maternal grandmother, Gracianna Lasaga. Lasaga immigrated from France to Santa Barbara, establishing a family and new life as shepherds. Today, her grandson Trini Amador produces award-winning Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Healdsburg.

While Gracianna is famed for its Pinot Noir, it also produces a limited quantity of Chardonnay. The Gracianna Chardonnay, Suzanne’s Blend, is named after Trini’s mother. Its grapes are sourced exclusively from Sonoma’s Russian River Valley. The light use of oak during winemaking leads to a palate that is lush but not dense, with a nice balance between fruit and acidity.

  • Price: $36
  • Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
  • Region: Russian River Valley AVA
  • Color: Pale to Medium Yellow
  • How it Tastes: Ripe Bartlett pear, golden apple, and lemon zest are framed by toasted oak, nutmeg, and slivered almond. Medium acidity and a rounded body carry this wine through on the smooth, faintly floral finish.
  • Serving Notes: Ready to drink now. Gracianna Chardonnay’s silky weight on the palate makes it a wonderful accompaniment to salmon basted with lemon butter, tortellini caprese, or chicken.
