The Eiffel Tower is Now Making Wine

In time for its 130th anniversary, Paris’ Eiffel Tower is now producing its own wine. The wines are being made by Winerie Parisienne on the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. The inaugural vintage will not be released until 2020, although guests are welcome to tour the winery in the interim.

Wine has been a part of the Eiffel Tower experience for decades. You can enjoy a toast at its rooftop Champagne bar, indulge in vintage wines selected by master sommeliers at Le Jules Verne on the first floor, or sip a glass at the bar of 58 Tour Eiffel (reopening Spring 2020). But until now, the Eiffel Tower has never made its own wine.

Via a press release, Winerie Parisienne confirmed that its wines are the first to be entirely grown and made in Paris since the 20th century. This marks an important turning point for the region. In the 1900s, Ile-de-France, which includes Paris, was the largest wine region in France. But with the rise of other major regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy, demand for Parisian wine fell. Now, Winerie Parisienne aims to revive the Parisian wine industry with approachable red, rosé, and sparkling wines.

While Merlot will be the first wine made, expect Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Pinot Noir soon. Winerie Parisienne is growing all of these varietals on a ten-hectare vineyard in Paris.

Winerie Parisienne is making a significant impact in bringing Paris forward as a notable wine region. We will be sure to provide updates as we receive them.
