Train Launches Drops of Jupiter Wine

After seeing strong success with Save Me, San Francisco, Train lead singer Pat Monahan is launching a new line of wines, Drops of Jupiter. Unlike Save Me, San Francisco, a line of $9 California-based wines, Drops of Jupiter is line of $20 wines sourced from around the world.

Each wine from Drops of Jupiter will explore new and emerging wine regions. “When Pat suggested the idea of a Cabernet from Australia, a perhaps unconventional place to source Cabernet, we dove in head first to the southeastern reaches of Australia where we discovered some of the most amazing, concentrated fruit we have ever tasted,” said winemaker James Foster via a PR Newswire statement. “And the resulting wine is just as rich and expressive as we imagined it would be. I’m equally ecstatic about our Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc, and couldn’t be more pleased to share Drops of Jupiter with the world.”

Winemaker James Foster is Monahan’s close friend, and also the winemaker behind his first wine brand, Save Me, San Francisco. Foster is also the talent behind many well-known wines from The Wine Group, including Cupcake Vineyards, Concannon Vineyards, Stave & Steel, and FlipFlop wines.

Drops of Jupiter boasts three wines at the moment, but is certain to release more in the future:

  • 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon: A 50/50 blend of grapes from Southeastern Australia’s Langhorne Creek and Padthaway regions, this is a rich, bold New World-style Cabernet brimming with dark fruit and spice. The fruit was left on the vine longer to enhance its drinkability and concentrated fruit flavors
  • 2016 Pinot Noir: This Burgundian-style Pinot Noir hails from the ocean breeze-cooled hills of San Benito AVA on the Central Coast. Tasting notes include raspberry, black cherry, and “subtle coffee and caramel tones” from the four months spent in medium-toasted French oak barrels
  • 2016 Sauvignon Blanc: This is your classic Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, but with a slightly richer body due to three months of sur lie aging. Expect ripe passionfruit, tropical, and grapefruit flavors with refreshing acidity

Fans of Save Me, San Francisco will be pleased to hear that proceeds from Drops of Jupiter still support Family House. Monahan is closely involved with Family House, a non-profit organization providing temporary housing to families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital.
