Wineries Damaged by the Wildfires — And How You Can Help

With tens of thousands of acres burned, the California wildfires have claimed countless houses, businesses, and lives. In Napa and Sonoma, most wineries are fortunate enough to have already completed the majority of their harvest for the year. However, a few wineries have sustained permanent losses, and the remaining damage continues to be assessed.

Paradise Ridge shared this heartbreaking photo of the damage sustained to its winery on Monday. Fortunately, their core estate vineyards survived the fire. Paradise Ridge is known for its certified-sustainable wines, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir.

White Rock Vineyards, renowned for its Bordeaux-style Claret and Chardonnay, lost its entire winery to the fires. White Rock has been a historic fixture of Napa since 1871. And Signorello Estate, a producer of small-batch, artisan wines, also confirmed its winery was completely destroyed by the fires. They were able to salvage their 2015 vintage of red wines and 2016 vintage of white wines, which were stored off the property.

So how can we help support impacted growers and vintners? Via Sonoma County Vintners, resources can be offered directly to members of Sonoma, Napa, and Mendocino winegrower and vintner associations. These include everything from housing, to water tanks, to tractors, to volunteer labor (skilled and unskilled).
