US Navy’s Newest Weapon Christened with $8 Wine

If you take away one thing from this article, it should be that $8 Barefoot Bubbly Moscato is one of the most consistently breaking bottles around. Heck, even $300 million U.S. warships are using it to christen their hulls.

Thats right. Via Wine Spectator, the U.S.S. Billings, the newest addition to the U.S. Navy’s fleet of warships, got a nice hit of Barefoot Bubbly Moscato before it set sail on Lake Michigan. According to shipbuilder Lockheed Martin, the decision to select Barefoot was not made lightly. In fact, multiple Champagne and sparkling wine bottles were tested. Ultimately, the team concluded that Barefoot sparkling wine bottles broke the most consistently in all temperatures, from 10 to 100 degrees. Less scientifically, Barefoot also offered the best photo-worthy “consistent splash”.
