What Not to Do: Tell People to Make Champagne Pops on Memorial Day

Don’t get us wrong. Champagne pops sound delicious. But a single tweet from @IvankaTrumpHQ makes it painfully clear that there are times when Champagne pops are not the right idea.

On Memorial Day, this tweet garnered over 6,000 replies and 1,000 retweets — of the negative variety.

Memorial Day is a holiday meant to honor those who have died in service for the country. The tweet instead asked for people to “Make Champagne popsicles”, enraging those who felt the President’s daughter was misusing the holiday for commercial purposes.

Here are just a few of the many heartfelt responses that poured in:

To Ivanka’s credit, the tweet came from the Ivanka Trump brand twitter account. This account may not have been directly managed by Ivanka herself. Later, Ivanka tweeted from her personal account, “Today we honor the men & women in our armed forces who have lost their lives to protect our freedom. Thank you for your service #MemorialDay.”

We’ll table the Champagne pops for another day, and take this as a poignant reminder of the value that Memorial Day holds for America.
