Bordeaux En Primeur Week Starts April 4th

How do young Bordeaux wines get evaluated? It all happens at En Primeur Week. Via Bloomberg, the event where two groups of people go: merchants looking to purchase Bordeaux futures at a discount, and journalists writing about the spectacle.

En Primeur Week for the 2016 Bordeaux vintage kicks off next Tuesday, April 4th. Industry professional will evaluate how the wines are coming along, straight out of the barrel. What we know so far is that the 2016 harvest was the largest in over a decade. Despite volumes of spring rain, followed by extreme summer heat, a cool autumn allowed for optimal ripening and harvest.

Via the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, the 2016 En Primeur Week is divided by Bordeaux appellation. Each appellation holds their tasting at a different Château.

Below is the schedule from the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux. The jury’s still officially out on 2016, but we’ll share out the updates as they come.
