New Target Stores to Include Wine & Beer Shop

Target announced recently that it will be rolling out a new store layout that includes a Wine & Beer shop. The wine shop is part of a larger initiative from Target to offer “more elevated product presentations and a number of time-saving features,” said Target Chairman and CEO Brian Cornell.

The next generation of Target’s store design caters to  busy customers pressed for time. The wine shop, a separate grocery section, and self-checkout lanes will be placed near the entrance for easy access.  The first concept is expected to open in Houston in October of 2018.

Target is one of the largest mass market retailers of wine in the nation, with its own proprietary line of boxed wines, Wine Cube. When Wine Cube launched back in 2003 as a collaboration with Trinchero Estates, it truly revolutionized the boxed wine scene. With the new wine shop concept, it’s possible that Target will continue to expand its white label offering, similar to Costco’s Kirkland line.
