Dolin Estates launches two new Malibu Coast AVA Red Blends

Dolin Estates is a pioneer for the Malibu Coast AVA, building the region’s reputation with its aromatic, well-balanced Chardonnay and silky Pinot Noir. Now, Dolin has announced via Jarvis Communications that it is making forays into fuller bodied reds with the release of two new red blends ($45): Blue Note, which is 40% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Cabernet Franc, and Troubador, which is 42% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Syrah, and 9% Petit Verdot.

The Malibu Coast AVA is one of California’s newest, established in 2014. It runs right along the Santa Monica coastline. The region’s altitude, volcanic soil, and marine fog make it well suited for grape growing.

Founders Eliott and Lynn Dolin intended for this newest release to showcase the elegance of the Malibu Coast. The Troubador and Blue Note are grown at a higher altitude than Dolin’s Chardonnay, bringing the more thick-skinned varietals above the fog line and into the sun for greater ripening. Tasting notes for the Blue Note are reminiscent of Bordeaux and Old World-style wines, and include “perfumed aromas of red currant, violets and plum” along with “savory notes of leather and cigar box”.
