Stags Leap AVA Opens its Doors for Annual Vineyard to Vintner 2017

What do Shafer, Chimney Rock, and Stags Leap Vineyards all have in common? Answer #1: They’re all situated in the Stags Leap District AVA. Answer #2: You can also taste all of them, along with 14 other Stags Leap wineries, in one weekend at the annual Vineyard to Vintner event on April 28-30, 2017.

The Stags Leap District AVA has a unique confluence of terroir factors that make it excellent for growing cabernet sauvignon. Gravelly and at times volcanic soil leads to higher drainage and more concentrated fruit. The AVA also has large diurnal temperature swings due to its valley location, letting grapes ripen properly while preserving acidity.

Enthusiasts can lock in their chance to truly geek out about all things Stags Leap when Vineyard to Vintner 2017 tickets go on sale this February 14th. A one-day ticket grants access to rich, intimate tasting experiences at seventeen open houses across the AVA.

For example, visitors can put their blind tasting skills to the test between three vintages at Baldacci Family Vineyards, rock out to live music with the latest Grateful Dead-inspired cabernet at Cliff Lede, or sample wines paired with “grown up” grilled cheese sandwiches at Taylor Family Vineyards. Shafer Vineyards fans will be delighted to have the opportunity to mingle with president Doug Shafer and winemaker Elias Fernandez, while sampling an exclusive library wine, the 2008 Hillside Select, and the newly released 2014 One Point Five.

One-day open house tasting tickets go on sale at $195 each, while packages that include exclusive winemaker lunches or dinners start at $340.
