And the Official Wine of the Oscars Goes to: Coppola

The results are in. Hollywood will be sipping on Francis Ford Coppola wine at the Academy Awards — for the next three years, to be exact. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Coppola is the official wine sponsor for both the 89th Annual Academy Awards and the 2017 Sundance Film Festival.

It should come as no surprise that a winner of six Academy Awards should then go on to supply wine to that very institution. “Filmmaking and winemaking are certainly two great passions of mine,” Coppola said. “By partnering with Sundance Institute and the Academy, I am now able to blend the two together in a big way.”

The special edition blends include a Cinema Premiere 89th Edition Chardonnay, which is a 2015 vintage from the Russian River Valley, and a Cinema Premiere 89th Edition Red, which is a 2013 vintage blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Merlot from the Sonoma County.

In addition to movie-themed wines (King Kong, Director’s Cut, Technicolor), we also have Coppola to thank for adding to all ends of the wine scene, from $5 cans of Sofia rosé to the 90 point-rated Archimedes Bordeaux blend retailing at $90.
