2015: A “succulent” vintage year for Burgundy wines

Lovers of ripe pinot, rejoice: the Jancis Robinson Burgundy reports are in, and 2015 is turning out to be one of the most “succulent” vintages on record. Due to a mild winter followed by a summer including both rain and high levels of heat, the grapes were able to reach a level of ripeness not typically seen in Burgundy. Robinson reports being particularly impressed with many reds.”Ripe” and “rich” are words being used to describe this vintage, which should equate to more appealing wines on shelves for New World pinot fans.

Those inclined towards lighter, more acidic Burgundy or pinot noir should stick to the 2014 vintage. Via Robinson, Burgundy endured a cold, wet summer in 2014, resulting in “relatively light” wines.
